Many women have discovered the joy and empowerment found by hiring a Professional Labor Assistant (PLA) to attend to their needs and desires during birthing. Also known as a Doula, a PLA assists the birthing mother and her birthing companion to experience a safe and satisfying birthing.

Your PLA provide emotional support, physical comfort and as needed, communication with the staff of your birthing center to make sure that you have all the information you need to make informed decisions in labor. As a PLA I work exclusively with couples who have gone through the HypnoBirthing® Childbirth Education classes - with myself or another practitioner. I can provide reassurance and perspective to you and your birthing companion, make suggestions for labor progress, and help with relaxation, massage, positioning, advocacy support and other techniques for comfort.

As your PLA my services will include 2 prenatal visits, labor and birthing and one post-partum visit to admire the new baby. I also make myself available by phone before and after your birthing for additional emotional support and to answer questions that may come up during those last weeks of pregnancy or first weeks of parenthood. I have a tremendous referral system which can help you connect with everyone from an acupuncturist to an estate planner.

I also facilitate the Blessingway - a ritual that can replace or augment the traditional baby shower that honors you as you move through the Rite of Passage of becoming a Mother. When you hold your child in your arms for the first time, you will feel a sense of accomplishment and power that you've never known, and when your baby's gaze meets yours for the first time, you will fall in love so deeply, you'll be amazed at the power and depth of this emotion. As your PLA it is my intention that you get the most joy out of your pregnancy and birthing experience, and to supply the support necessary for you to do just that.

About Us

Based in San Jose, San Jose HypnoBirthing Center specializes in childbirth education labor and delivery support and classes in Self-Hypnosis. Currently the center has two HypnoBirthing® professionals.

Yvonne Schwab, Director

Yvonne is a Certified Hypnotherapist  through the National Guild of Hypnotists and the Center for Hypnotherapy Certification, and also holds a Certification in HypnoBirthing® Childbirth Education through the HypnoBirthing Institute. Yvonne has also completed studies in Prenatal Parenting^TM and has become the Director of Northern California for Prenatal Parenting^TM.

An avid student and teacher of metaphysics, she teaches an introductory course on HypnoBirthing® at the Center for Hypnotherapy Certification in Oakland, and has ongoing classes in Self-Hypnosis at the S.A.F.E. Place in Santa Clara, as well as her regular HypnoBirthing classes in her office in San Jose.
